Below are some moments in our lives that were very impactful for us: our first date, Dylan’s proposal, our wedding day, and the birth of our first child! We hope you enjoy reading them and continue to watch as overtime our story grows.
Our first date, told by Dylan:
The day was 29 May 2013. It was a Wednesday and I (Dylan) had just gotten off from work. I made an hour and a half drive from Norfolk to Richmond. I remember getting nervous as I turned onto her street and began to drive towards her apartment. I called Sarah and let her know I was outside, but then quickly realized that there was no street parking in front of the apartment. I had to turn around 2 times to find a spot, but I was finally parked and waiting. I saw her approaching and I felt the nerves grow stronger and then she got to the car and that is when it happened. She opened my car door…right into a pole, put a dent into my car door, and got into my car as if nothing happened. This is how our first date began.
We went to see The Hangover 3 which was mediocre at best. Then we went out to dinner at Plaza Azteca which, if you know Sarah, was obviously her choice. After dinner, at a stoplight, we shared our first kiss. Everything was just so effortless. I can remember talking for hours, especially at dinner where we talked for four hours. Afterwards I dropped her off and began my journey back home to Norfolk. And as I made my drive, I felt as though this was the one—this was the girl I was going to marry.
The Proposal, told by Sarah:
The proposal was simple and romantic, involving just the two of us. I (Sarah) had just finished up a night shift at my job where I had to be back bright and early the next morning. I walked into our apartment with nothing on my mind but sleep. My puppy, Marvel, came running to me when I walked in and he was wearing a white t-shirt that was much too large for him. I thought Dylan was just being silly and I didn’t even question why Marvel was wearing one of his shirts. I walked into the living room and found Dylan on his knee. Still oblivious to the situation, I asked him what he was doing and told him to get up. He told me to read Marvel’s shirt. I walked over to Marvel and looked at his shirt. “Will you marry Daddy?” Dylan then told me to read our other dog’s, Eleanor, shirt that said, “Please?”
Dylan then pulled out a beautiful, vintage, family ring and popped the question. The ring belonged to his Great-Great-Grandmother, dating back to 1917. It is something I will cherish forever, just as I will forever cherish Dylan and our marriage.
Our Wedding Day:
Our wedding day was magical, and I don’t think I could summarize it any better than I already did in this blog post: Our Wedding Day. It was a spring wedding, lavender and tea pot themed, had a food truck instead of a caterer, and donuts instead of a cake. We spent the whole evening with the people we love most.
Our First Born:
Dylan and I found out we were expecting just a few days before we got married. Read all about it in my previous blog post: A secret on our wedding day. Having a family has always been our biggest dream and we couldn’t be happier to have it come true! Our sweet Kensington Louise was born on December 12th, 2016. She has been nothing but a dream and we have had unmeasurable amounts of tears, laughs, and experiences with her so far! Read Kensie’s birth story here and her two-month-update here.
